Pull-ups and combat fitness
A strong pull matters when you climb, drag, carry or control your own bodyweight. Build it with frequent clean repetitions, not constant failure.
Own the basics
Begin from a controlled hang, set the shoulders and pull the chest toward the bar. Keep the ribs and pelvis connected. Finish the repetition without reaching the chin forward.
Build volume
Use sets of roughly half your maximum. Spread them across the day or perform ladders such as 1-2-3, resting briefly between rungs. Stop each ladder while another clean repetition is still available.
Add strength
When ten strict repetitions are comfortable, introduce weighted singles, doubles or triples. Alternate them with rows and carries so the elbows and grip receive varied work.
Reliable beats heroic: practise enough to improve while keeping elbows, shoulders and hands ready for tomorrow.
